This restaurant had a bit of a rocky start a few years back, but under new leader ship (Mexico's top chef overseeing), it has hit its stride. High marks for design, execution and attention to detail!

De Temporada

A restaurant like no other in San Miguel! Situated on a family farm ten minutes outside of town, this organic eatery features the best from local crops and offerings. We had pork belly with home made apple sauce, with green beans and baby roasted tomatoes. Salads offer fresh jicama and herbs, desserts were off the hook. We are still talking about the maple-ginger ice cream.

 There is no website, but the menu, that changes often, is on their Facebook page. Pre-negotiate the taxi price with a driver (should be no more than 100MXP), and take your adventure outside the city! Open Tue-Sat, be forewarned that you need to get there early to ensure the full menu selection.

 T-F the farm shop adjacent to the restaurant is also open with local honey, organic market vegetables & flowers.

No alcohol or beer served, but you are invited to bring your own.

Cafe Contento

Tucked into a shaded courtyard you will find locals enjoying continental and traditional Mexican breakfast served up by some of the friendliest ladies in San Miguel. Explore a little further into the courtyard and you will discover one of Centro's best bakeries La Buena Vida - from ciabattas to baguettes, empanadas to sweet rolls, croissants and milk bread, we love it all. Tip: Keep your bakery items stored in the oven at Casa Estana to prevent drying out in our desert climate!

La Parada

San Miguels Peruvian mega hit! We love lavender or pineapple/ginger Pisco Sours... made authentically. Food here is fabulous and hits all the right notes on presentation, flavor and portion sizes. Its a hot spot. Have a facial next door at Claro de Luna (see PAMPERING section), and stop by afterwards for lunch. For dinner, book ahead!

Just up the street one block you will find our local boutique hotel Dos Casas. Inside, a jewlbox of a bar and serene courtyard restaurant that will entice you to sample the chefs daily specials and endeavors. Purported to be one of the top three chefs in Mexico, book a table asap ... at least a few weeks in advance!

La Burger

Out of town & worth the trip! This roadhouse offers prime beef steaks & burgers cooked over an open wood fire in the center of the dining area. Organic greens and great fries make this a place we love to chow down on every trip to San Miguel! Dog friendly. I was very disappointed at the "in town" La Burger. NOT the same experience. Have Pascual drive you!

Bezzito

If you feel the need to mingle amongst the uber-hip in an LA style roof bar, look no further. Step into the glass elevator and be transported up to the roof at Bezzito, a short walk away. Serving tapas and more, we like to take in the sunset here plopped into a cushy lounger positioned over the river under glass (yep), and take in the beautiful people & killer sunsets. Be prepared to make an entrance when those elevator doors open ... thats where the show begins!

We think their empanadas with chimichurri are also yummy. Steer clear on weekend nights, it can be overrun with families & kids.

Chamonix

We've been to Chamonix in Switzerland, so were curious about this venue. As it turns out, it offers up a refreshing menu and there IS a Swiss connecion (you'll have to inquire). This long time restaurant that has a great reputation - and some surprises. We like the vietnamese spring rolls and lettuce wraps for something different here in colonial mexico. The setting is sweet, and the service attenive. A locals favorite.

My first stop in San Miguel proved also to be one of the best. At Chamonix, Chef Ana Lilia Galindo Chávez serves a sophisticated but unpretentious interpretation of Mexican cuisine. Her small menu, featuring lovely homemade soups and pastas, salads, appealing appetizers and entrees, quickly became my favorite lunch spot. The understated garden setting adds to the already charming dishes. Artichoke soup is simple, flavorful and light: a perfect pairing for Chamonix’s signature salad of pear, spinach, walnuts and Roquefort. The pasta, tossed in lemon sauce with prawns, is fresh, delicate and tasty. For a main course, try the Swiss Fillet, topped with blackened onions and served in a chipotle, sun dried tomato and rosemary sauce. To thoroughly revel in your meal, end with a slice of her delightful key lime pie.
